The CIR publishes books, and discussion
papers – in both Slovene and English language. In July 2009 CIR
initiated its electronic book series.
CIR publications include studies on various international
relations issues, including international legal issues, human
rights, non-alignment, international regionalism, transnational
enterprises, foreign direct investment, the role of small states
in the international community, international indebtedness,
foreign policy of Slovenia, peacekeeping and peacemaking, and
international organisations.
Research results have also been published in specialised
journals in Slovenia and abroad, and have appeared as books, or
book chapters published by different Slovenian and international
publishers. The CIR researchers and research associates have
contributed to various anthologies and reports at international
conferences.

The journal dates back to 1985 when the journal Development &
South-South Co-operation (later renamed Development &
International Co-operation - DIC) was created. In 1994, the
Journal of International Relations (JIR) was initiated to cover
the subject of International Relations in its broadest meaning.
In 1998, a decision was made by the CIR to merge the two
journals – the DIC and the JIR – into one: the Journal of
International Relations and Development (JIRD). Zlatko Šabič
served as the Editor- in-Chief between (1998 and 2003).
JIRD is a double-blind peer-reviewed quarterly, published in
English, by Palgrave and the CIR. As of 2004, it is edited by
Stefano Guzzini (Danish Institute for International Studies,
Copenhagen and Uppsala University, Sweden) and Milan Brglez
(CIR, University of Ljubljana).
